BSD lizentziak nagusiki BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution) sistemetan erabiltzen den software libre lizentzia-multzoa da. Izena lizentzia ematen duen UNIX-moduko sistema eragilearen izenetik datorkio.

Berau, Berkeleyko Californiako Unibertsitatean idatzi zein lehenengoz eta zenbait berrikuspen izan ditu ordutik hona, lizentzia eratorri horiek BSD lizentzia aldatua izena dute.

Lizentzia hauek, murriztapen gutxiago dituzte beste software libre lizentzia batzurekin alderatuz gero (esaterako, GPL). Hau da, BSD lizentzia bat esleiturik duten lanak, domeinu publikotik hurbilago daude, beste lizentzia batzuk esleituta dituzten lanak baino.

Jatorrizko BSD lizentziak, hurrengo bertsioetan aurkitzen ez den klausula bat zuen, "publizitate klausula" bezala ezaguna. Azkenean eztabaida sortu zuen klausula izan zen hau, BSD lizentzia pean lizentziaturiko lan jakin baten lan eratorri ororen publizitatean, jatorrizko iturburu-kodearen autoreen izenak jartzera behartzen baitzuen. Publizitate klausula, BSD ofizialetik 1999ko urriaren 22an kendu zuen William Hoskins-ek, Berkeleyko teknologia-lizentzien bulegoko zuzendariak.

Jatorrizko lizentziari batzuetan BSD zaharra deitzen zaion bitartean, 3 klausulatako bertsio hau BSD berria moduan da ezaguna. Izatez, bertsio hau "BSD lizentzia berria" deritzo OSIren arabera.

Bertsio honek, mugagabeko birbanaketa baimentzen du, edozein xederekin, copyright oharra eta garantiari dagozkion lizentziaren oharrak mantentzen diren bitartean. Lizentziak, lan eratorri batek jatorrizko kodearen egileen onespena duela zabaltzea eragozten duen klausula bat ere badu -baldin eta baimen zehatzik ez badute horretarako-.

BSD lizentziak, jabedun erabilpena baimentzen du, baita lizentzia honen pean askaturiko softwarea produktu jabedunetan txertatzea ere.
