La rame au premier plan est un "train-tramway" de la Compagnie du nord, tractée par une automotrice à vapeur série VV1 à 2 construite par les ateliers de la compagnie en 1901. Elle est placée au centre de la rame pour permettre la marche dans les deux sens. Les compartiments voyageurs sont désaxés par rapport au châssis afin de garantir au mécanicien la visibilité de la voie. Dans la partie basse, les voitures comportent des coffres à bagages.
