English: This place was named for the priest who started the orphanage. We were told that so many Mexicans were named Cabañas as descendants of the children who came here.

As explained, in symbolism, Cabañas's gaze is back to the conquistadors and across to the fresco of the figure with the whip and boot oppressing the workers.
And subtly in the black material below his cross, is a face of the devil.
Its rather amazing that Orozco was commissioned to do art as critical as this!
