Dried fish that the natives call “hardfiskur” is a traditional Icelandic fare. This delicious food is very nutritious, low in fat and high in protein. Recommended for athletes and those who care what they eat. Enjoyed as a snack or meal, it’s perfect to take along on trips because it’s light and full of energy. Hardfiskur is good on its own, but for an even richer taste add a bit of butter. Tear it into bite size pieces and serve it as a snack with some beer in good company.
I guess many countries have a local food that makes a visitor go "yeccch"... I consider this Icelandic Vegemite!
So what in the US is a nasty food the locals eat but tourists won't touch?
