Флаг города Иванова представляет собой прямоугольное полотнище голубого цвета — цвета геральдического поля щита герба города. В центре полотнища — молодая женщина, сидящая и обращённая к древку, в белой рубахе с жёлтым (золотистым) воротом и в красном сарафане, имеющем вверху детали жёлтого цвета. Молодая женщина сидит в красном кокошнике, украшенном жёлтой тесьмой, и в белом платке на голове. Из-за её колен возникает за нею жёлтая гребёнка-прялка с белой куделью, которую она держит правой рукой; перед ней стоит прялка, колесо которой она вращает левой рукой. Отношение ширины флага к его длине соответствует 2 к 3
