English: Weir and Tweed Bridge Peebles The weir (or cauld) was built to draw off water to power Tweedside Spinning Mills. The discharged water ran out through a mill lade back into the river beyond the bridge. The weir is a favourite spot for herons to stand and wait for a meal and the mill site is now an indoor swimming pool.
