Montague Rhodes James (Goodnestone, 1862ko abuztuaren 1a – Eton, 1936ko ekainaren 12a) ingeles idazlea izan zen.
Eton Collegen eta Cambridgeko Unibertsitatean ikasi zuen eta unibertsitateko King's Collegeko zuzendaria izan zen. Erdi Aroan aditua eta antikuarioa izan zen, indusketak egin eta Erdi Aroko eskuizkribuen katalogoak egin zituena. 1918tik 1936ra Eton Collegeko zuzendaria izan zen.
Hala ere, bere ospea asmatu zituen mamuen istorioen ondorio da. Lagunei eta ikasleei istorioak irakurtzen hasi zen eta ondoren bildumetan argitaratu zituen. Topiko gotikoak erabiltzeari utzi zion eta errealismoa eta umorea erabili zituen. "Antikuarioen mamuen istorioen" sortzailea izan zen.
