Photos taken of members of the European Parliament
[aldatu | aldatu iturburu kodea]
From Monday 3 February to Thursday 6 February a group of about 50 Wikimedians were present in the European Parliament in Strasbourg to take photos of members of the European Parliament. From about half of all members (766) of the parliament there have been photos taken during these days. Still a lot of them have to be uploaded to Commons. Also from members from Basque Country photos have been taken. A part from the pictures already have been added to articles on the various language Wikipedias, but many not. Please help us with that. If you add a photo in one language, it would be recommended to add the photo also to the articles in other languages.
The category with photos can be found on Commons here and includes also the other photos that have been taken by the group members during the project in Strasbourg.
On all the photos there is a special template to mark this project and gives more information about it. We would like to have this template translated into at least all the 24 official languages of the European Union and if possible also in other languages spoken in the EU. Can anyone translate this template from English (or German/French) to Basque?
- You can do that by copying the contents of Commons:Template:WIKI loves parliaments/European Parliament 2014/en to Commons:Template:WIKI loves parliaments/European Parliament 2014/eu and translate the parts behind the = . Thank you!
In the past weeks on several Wikipedias users started a project to write all missing articles at least from the country a language is mostly spoken in, but certainly also from all other countries of the European Union. All members of the European Parliament have an article on at least one language version of Wikipedia, but on a lot of language versions their articles are missing and still need to be written. This writing project currently happens on for example the Dutch Wikipedia.
The project page for having been at the European Parliament is at Commons at Commons:Wikipedians in European Parliament. The project is part of a larger project to take photos from members of national and regional parliaments. In the past years Wiki loves parliaments was for example active in the state parliaments in Germany. Which parliament shall be next?
Thanks for the help! Greetings - Romaine (eztabaida) 15:05, 9 otsaila 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you, Romaine! Template translated. Greetings. --Xabier Armendaritz

Universal Language Selector will be enabled by default again on this wiki by 21 February 2014
[aldatu | aldatu iturburu kodea]On January 21 2014 the MediaWiki extension Universal Language Selector (ULS) was disabled on this wiki. A new preference was added for logged-in users to turn on ULS. This was done to prevent slow loading of pages due to ULS webfonts, a behaviour that had been observed by the Wikimedia Technical Operations team on some wikis.
We are now ready to enable ULS again. The temporary preference to enable ULS will be removed. A new checkbox has been added to the Language Panel to enable/disable font delivery. This will be unchecked by default for this wiki, but can be selected at any time by the users to enable webfonts. This is an interim solution while we improve the feature of webfonts delivery.
You can read the announcement and the development plan for more information. Apologies for writing this message only in English. Thank you. Runa

I apologize if this message is not in your language. Please help translate it.
Do you have an idea for a project that could improve your community? Individual Engagement Grants from the Wikimedia Foundation help support individuals and small teams to organize experiments for 6 months. You can get funding to try out your idea for online community organizing, outreach, tool-building, or research to help make Wikipedia better. In March, we’re looking for new project proposals.
Examples of past Individual Engagement Grant projects:
- Organizing social media for Chinese Wikipedia ($350 for materials)
- Improving gadgets for Visual Editor ($4500 for developers)
- Coordinating access to reliable sources for Wikipedians ($7500 for project management, consultants and materials)
- Building community and strategy for Wikisource (€10000 for organizing and travel)
Proposals are due by 31 March 2014. There are a number of ways to get involved!
Hope to have your participation,
