Stema comunei Cristian se compune dintr-un scut triunghiular albastru cu marginile rotunjite, tăiat de un brâu undat de argint.

În partea superioară se află o dangă pentru înfierat vitele, care este reprezentată de un cerc din care ies patru săgeţi, de aur, aşezate în cele patru puncte cardinale, cu vârful spre exterior.

În partea inferioară se află un monument alcătuit dintr-un postament paralelipipedic, peste care este aşezat un obelisc; deasupra obeliscului pe un soclu este aşezată o acvilă cu zborul luat, totul de aur.

Scutul este timbrat de o coroană murală de argint cu un turn crenelat.

Semnificaţiile elementelor însumate

Danga pentru vite, folosită din anul 1826, evocă marca juridică a comunei, perpetuată până în prezent.

Brâul undat face referire la hidrografia localităţii - râul Cibin, ce împarte comuna în două.

Monumentul simbolizează faptul că acesta a fost ridicat în memoria eroilor căzuţi în cele două războaie mondiale. Coroana murală cu un turn crenelat semnifică faptul că localitatea are rangul de comună.
