Il vaudrait mieux les appeler chats-léopards qu'autrement, car ils ont plus de traits communs avec le léopard qu'avec aucune autre bête. Ils vivent de ce dont les autres chats vivent, sauf qu'ils prennent des poules et des oies et une chèvre ou une brebis, s'ils la trouvent toute seule, car ils sont aussi grands qu'un loup et ont aussi la forme d'un léopard, sauf qu'ils n'ont pas si longue queue ; un lévrier tout seul ne se pourrait prendre à l'un de ces chats et le retenir ; il prendrait plutôt un loup qu'un chat, car ils ont les ongles comme un léopard et, en outre, très mauvaise morsure. On les chasse peu si ce n'est par hasard."
