Matthew Robert Smith (Northampton, 1982ko urriaren 28a - ) Ingalaterrako aktore bat da, telebistan, zineman eta antzerkian lan egin duena. Doctor Who telesailean hamaikagarren doktorearen papera betetzeagatik da ezaguna. Ondoren The Crown eta House of the Dragon telesailetan protagonista izan da.

Futboletik antzerkira[aldatu | aldatu iturburu kodea]
Gaztetan futbolari profesionala izatekoa zen eta Nottingham Forest eta Leicester City klubetako gazte mailako taldetan jokatu zuen[1]. Leicesterren kapitaina ere izan zen[2]. Bizkarreko lesio baten ondorioz erretiratu egin zen eta antzerkia egiten hasi zen National Youth Theatre-n eta Ekialdeko Angliako Unibertsitatean drama eta idazkera kreatibo ikasketak egin zituen[3]. 2003an hasi zen antzerkian lan egiten; Murder in the Cathedral, Fresh Kills, The History Boys, On the Shore of the Wide World...[4] Telebistan ere hainbat telesail egin zituen, aipagarriena Party Animals telesailean egin zuen Danny Foster detektibearen lana[5].
Doctor Who[aldatu | aldatu iturburu kodea]
2009ko urtarrilaren 3an hamaikagarren doktorea izango zela iragarri zen eta sorpresa handian izan zen, Smith baino askoz ezagunagoak ziren aktoreak aurrikusten baitziren paper horretarako[6]. 26 urte baino ez zituen orduan. Karen Gillan eskoziarra izan zuen Amy Pond laguntzailearen paperean[7] eta bientzako arrakastatsua izan zen Doctor Whon egindako papera. Telesailaren 5., 6. eta 7. denboraldietan protagonista izan ondoren 2013ko Gabonetako atal berezia izan zuen Doctorearen papera bete zuen azkena. Azken denboraldiaren erdialdetik aurrera Jenna Coleman izan zuen laguntzaile[8].
Hamaikagarren doktore gisa egindako lanarengatik hainbat sari irabazi zituen, SFX Awards (2011n eta 2012an) eta National Television Awards (2012an eta 2014an).

Doctor Who amaitu eta hurrengo urtean Netflix kateko The Crown telesailean Filipe Edinburgokoa izateko aukeratua izan zen[9]. Bi denboraldi egin zituen bertan eta 2018ko Emmy Sarietarako izendapena lortu zuen[10].
2020an Game of Thrones telesail arrakastatsuaren prekuela den House of the Dragon telesaileko protagonista izateko aukeratu zuten[11]. Telesaila 2022ko abuztuaren 21ean hasi zen emititzen[12].
